About Grace

Grace Tran is a writer, reader, traveller, and lover of handwritten notes. She is also a Ph.D. Candidate at the Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal Studies. Her writing has been featured in the Toronto Star. This blog is a space to merge her academic interests with her love for pop culture and offbeat musings. In her spare time, Grace enjoys kayaking, reading the 'Trivia' pages of IMDB, cheering on her favourite team (the Toronto Raptors...as if that was even a question), live tweeting about The Bachelor, and eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants.

Fun Facts about Grace:
  • Her only claim to fame is that she was once featured (as a chubby kid eating a lollipop) on the front cover of a Vietnamese-Canadian magazine
  • She learned how to code and webdesign in the sixth grade and does it nowadays to unwind
  • She can eat an entire family-sized bag of chips in one sitting\
  • She enjoys line-ups because there's just something so appealing about buying into the hype and bonding with friends during long waits (really, from celebrity meetups to book signings to freebies at the mall, she'll just about happily line up for anything)
  • Her family affectionately refers to her as cong chua, or 'Princess' in Vietnamese, because she is the eldest out of her dozens of cousins and was the first one in her family to be born in Canada
  • She has a weird addiction to agendas, planners, and journals, but will almost never commit to just one
  • She prefers wolfing down Cheetos when they're exactly 7 days stale - prime staleness without the sog
  • She fibbed to her parents in the 3rd grade about needing glasses (because, at the time, most of her classmates had them and they looked cool), and now truly regrets it as she can't live a day without prescription glasses or contacts.
